Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020: the flagship killer gets challenged

While Xiaomi has been known to be the brand challenging others, the table seems to be turning. OPPO’s launch of the A9 2020 has thrown ripples into the smartphone pond. In this Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020 comparison, OPPO delivers a compelling challenge that shakes the table.

If your interest or curiosity is piqued already, come along and have a look at the facts and figures.

Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020: The Preamble

For this comparison, we are lining up the higher variant of Xiaomi Mi 9T, the one with 4GB RAM and which costs 119,500, against the 8GB RAM version of the OPPO A9 2020, costing 89,900. There is a ₦30,000 price difference between the two.

But if we pitched the 4GB RAM version of the OPPO A9 2020 against the Xiaomi, the price difference would be even worse – probably in the range of 35,000-40,000. So, let’s keep things this way.

Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020
Who wins the Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020 comparison?

As you can see already, the OPPO A9 2020 is by far the more affordable of the two devices. I spoke with a friend just before the A9 2020 launch and he was sure that OPPO was going to announce a 6-figure price tag for the A9 2020. Nobody was expecting the price that was eventuially placed on the phone.

Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020: Quick Specs Comparison

It is time to draw up that our comparison table and pitch the distinguishing differences of the two devices against one another.

And this is where we get the grey areas out of the way: and it is usually about cameras.

Don’t get tired of me saying it, but camera specifications are meaningless on their own. And so, unless there is a direct shootout between these two phones, we cannot declare a winner in the photography segment of this Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020 comparison.

This is true for both the rear cameras and the front-facing selfie cameras. On paper though, the rear camera goes to OPPO while the selfie camera goes to Xiaomi.

Where Xiaomi Mi 9T has the edge

Xiaomi Mi 9T cameras

Xiaomi’s gladiator has a better display (greater pixel density and because it is AMOLED). It is also better protected, thanks to the Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back; and is more powerful, thanks to the Snapdragon 730 processor.

In other words, you will enjoy high resolution images and video better on it, enjoy gaming better too, and it stands a much better chance of surviving drops and rough handling.

Where OPPO A9 2020 has the edge

OPPO A9 2020

The A9 2020 offers a number of features over its opponent. The list includes: a bigger battery, reverse charging (that means you can use it as a power bank for charging other devices), more RAM, better storage options, and stereo speakers.

Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020: Who wins?

If performance and durability is more important to you, the Xiaomi Mi 9T is the better device. It is not that the OPPO is poor at these things. The Snapdragon 665 handles gaming well and will likely take a hit only when you throw the most demanding games at it.

Both devices have the same internal storage, but the A9 2020 offers you expansion options. which the Xiaomi lacks. In addition, you will get better audio from the OPPO. It will run longer on a single charge, will charge up your other devices when their batteries run out, and you will enjoy multitasking on it better. The OPPO A9 2020 is pretty much a Swiss Army knife.

The question is: Do you consider the better display, better protection, and more powerful processor of the Mi 9T worth shelling out the extra ₦30,000 for? I expect that responses will vary from person to person, and that is fine.

One thing is for sure: should you not have that extra cash, the OPPO A9 2020 will not disappoint you. It outflanks the Xiaomi Mi 9T in many areas and falls behind it in only a few. In this Xiaomi Mi 9T vs OPPO A9 2020 royal rumble, OPPO’s gladiator offers much better value by far when you compare both devices feature-to-price.

  1. Bang for bucks, the Oppo wins, no OPPO_sition.

I don’t do extreme games (even in real life) – so the processor ultra power isn’t significant, and have only dropped my phone twice in my smartphone life (both times – with no repercussions).

But I have noticed many of these Xiaomi phones have IR Remote blaster – which comes quite handy in the home and office .

Surprisingly, its presence influences the choice of Xiaomi phones over similarly priced ones -for some people..

Having got used to this on_phone Remote Controller myself on my RedMi 7, I would sure deplore its absence. on any subsequent phone I buy..

I am sure the Samsungs of this world are noting, carefully, the offerings from the OPPO_sition.

Good times are here for the consumers….
