You can now open Office documents and do more with Skype for Android

Skype keeps packing more and more functionality into their service. Just recently, group video calling was announced for the messaging platform. And now, two new additional productivity features have been announced: the ability to open office documents – Word, Excel, Powerpoint – from right inside Skype, as well as the ability to schedule calls.

Open Microsoft Office documents, presentations and spreadsheets
Easily open Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets that you receive in 1:1 and group chats. If a friend sends you a Word document, tapping on the file will open it right up in Word for Android; no extra steps needed! If you don’t have Office apps for Android installed, tapping on the file will give you easy instructions on how to download and install them.

Schedule a call with friends and family
We know that many of you arrange calls over Skype, and we’ve now made it easier for you to add it to your calendar, so you don’t forget about them. You can already schedule Skype calls using Outlook, and now you can also schedule calls in Outlook from Skype. Tap on the person you want to plan a call with, then tap the menu on the upper right to select ‘Schedule a call.’ Don’t have Outlook for Android? Get it here. You can also use another calendar app if you prefer. Create an event and send out the invite.
