    1. There’s no “final speed”. What you have is 8 CPUs: 4 cores operating at 1.7 GHz and 4 cores operating at 1 GHz.

  1. Its called bigLITTLE architecture. The processor runs on the lower clocked cores for basic functions, thus saving battery life. It is designed, without the user noticing, to switch to the higher clocked core for mildly applications and it utilises all cores when you throw very intensive tasks at it.

It different to true 8-core processors where the 8 core are all working simultaneously.

    1. Just want to point out that even on “true” 8-core processors, oftentimes only some of the cores are in action simultaneously.

  2. @Ehis,
There’s nothing “wrong” about it. Or would you rather they say “1.7GHz octa-core processor” when it’s not?
And remember, the higher the clock rate, the higher the price.
