The EXCERIA PLUS G2 Portable SSD might be tiny in size, making it super convenient to carry around and use, but it is big on performance. It isn’t every day I get excited about an external storage device, but this one has my undivided attention.

Note that the manufacturer Kioxia also makes an internal NVMe SSD that it sells under the name Exceria Plus (available on Amazon); that is a different device entirely. I am talking about the Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 portable SSD external storage here. This is an external, portable storage for consumer use.

The EXCERIA PLUS G2 Portable SSD storage device is the size of a credit card and has storage options of 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB, so you are not giving up capacity because if it’s compact size.

It is super fast, also, at reading and writing files, so you can transfer large videos and images really fast. Do not be fooled by the physical size; this pebble-like portable SSS clearly packs a punch.

Because of its tiny size, you might get comfortable and find yourself dropping it inadvertantly. While not a guarantee, the fact that it was built to have a shockproof aluminium housing that is “compatible with MIL-STD drop test” (as the manufacturer puts it) might provide you with some safety. Still, don’t go dropping it.

Let’s look at what more the EXCERIA PLUS G2 Portable SSD brings to the table.

Compatibility

In today’s world where cell phones rule the world but alongside other types of computing devices, it is essential to have an external storage device that you can plug into as many of these different devices as possible.

I like the new EXCERIA PLUS G2
Portable SSD external storage. Once upon a time, I needed to carry a backpack or laptop bag or a small bag in order to take my external drive around with me when I am on the move. This portable model from Kioxia has fixed that problem. It fits in my pocket without a serious bulge, is built with some toughness to protect it from impact, and it has all the performance that I need.

KIOXIA Europe GmbH is a reputable brand and subsidiary of Kioxia Corporation. This is the company that invented the world’s first NAND flash memory not to require a power source and is also one of the world’s largest manufacturers of flash memory and SSD.

If you know the Toshiba brand, Kioxia is the memory business of Toshiba Corporation, a conglomerate with its origins in Japan.

Price

The slightly bigger, older sibling of the EXCERIA PLUS G2, the Kioxia Exceria Plus, sells for between US$100 and US$600 on the Amazon US website. You can expect the G2 to cost a little more than that.
