My friend, Chuks tweeted at me earlier today the following:
Spoken like @Mister_Mobility. Lol >>> Actor Joseph Benjamin Shares His New Year General Announcement! http://www.lailasblog.com/2014/01/read-actor-joseph-benjamins-new-year.html via @LailasBlog

When I saw the tweet, I wondered what it could be that Joseph said like me, so I followed the link to see. Like me, Joseph Benjamin is done working for free. His goodness has been taken advantage of beyond limits. I double checked the “announcement” on other news sites, and it seems valid. Seems. Anyway, here is a section of his announcement:
Please don’t ask me to do things pro bono for you, or your organization/magazine/newspaper/etc, unless you fancy being let down, personally. I have serious bills to pay, just like the rest of y’all, so if you want to hire my services, we can talk, but otherwise, don’t even think about approaching me – the time for me to pump up my resume with the fleeting thrill of being a good samaritan is over unless you pay for it. I repeat over!
I like people who take an unpopular stand and stick their neck out based on principles. As far as I am concerned, one cannot continue to run business the way many Nigerians want it run. Many want you to do stuff for free, while they are collecting and spending from their own salaries. Many others want you to do stuff and come chase them for your money for the next six (6) months.
I am done with that sort of thing. Call me whatever you want to call me. From now on, it is “Money for hand; back for ground”. Maybe I should get in touch with Joseph to form an association around this campaign. Plus, we are both fine boys na…. *Gets on black horse, and rides outta town*
