The Microsoft Surface Laptop came with the one-of –a-kind Windows 10 S. This was unexpected, as the operating system was judged to be below the standard for such range of laptops. In other words, Windows 10 S should be loaded on cheaper devices than the Surface laptop. That remains to be seen. However, the Asus VivoBook W202 is one device that fits the description of a Windows 10 S-worthy laptop.
The Asus VivoBook W202 costs just $279, made for people with a tiny budget, and reports suggest that the device was made with moderate specs, which should be good enough for young individuals. The laptop comes with an Intel Celeron N3350 processor running at 1.1GHz, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. There are other versions available, which have up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This version comes with the full version of Windows 10 for just $299.
According to Asus, the VivoBook W202 is built for educational purposes. It has a spill-resistant keyboard, an 180-degree hinge, and reinforced edges that protect the device from accidental drops. Furthermore, the display is an anti-glare model, to reduce eye strain. Other attributes include the keyboard, which gives 1.8mm travel, and a larger trackpad. All these features make the Asus VivoBook W202 easier for students to use.
In terms of battery life, the VivoBook W202 lasts up to 11 hours on a single charge. It also comes with two USB Type-A ports, a full-size HDMI port, and an SD card reader. All these come on a device that weighs a mere 2.6 pounds and is less than 1 inch thick.
The Asus VivoBook W202 would serve you quite well if you need a device to hand to your kids who are entering into school. An added advantage is that you cannot install some unnecessary applications, as Windows 10 S does not permit such. However, it is not a powerful device.
