Almost all mobile games we play tend to make us the hero. We get to mete out destruction on bad guys, and gain points for doing so. However, some games just flip the script and make you the bad guy. Randals Monday is one of those games. This is a point-and-click adventure that takes inspiration from stoner comedy and more or less every major sci-fi property on the planet. In Randal’s Memory, you play as Randal, a kleptomaniac, sociopath and above everything bad friend, who is cursed to relieve the same bad Monday over and over again until he can set things right.
Randals Monday is a graphic adventure game, which features a classic gameplay style and a storyline full of humor. The game’s carton-style visuals make it look like a kid-friendly game, which it is not. this game makes you play the bad guy. What makes Randal a true bad guy is the fact that he has no moral center. For example, at some point in the game he is confronted with the dismembered body of his best friend. Randal just spouts one-liners, instead of maybe feeling bad for his best friend. Basically, Randal is a really horrible person tasked with making things right, yet he feels no compulsion to do so.
The game relies on a series of guesswork puzzles. It contains references to lots of mainstream media items, such as Portal, The Twilight Zone, The Shawshank Redemption and so on. However, since the game is centered on a dude with poor character, it is unlikely that many people will find it relatable, or even playable. However, if you are simply looking for a game that goes against the established norms of being a good guy against the evil forces of the world, then you would greatly enjoy playing Randal’s Monday. The game is available for Android, iOS and PlayStation.
