WP81-official file manager

Windows Phone 8.1 may already have two 3rd party file managers like Aerize Explorer and Pocket, but Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has leaked news that an official file manager is in the works and should be out by end of May. His words:

*** YES *** We are doing a File Manager for WP8.1! I know a LOT of you are looking for this (thanks for the tweets, I’ve read them all). In fact, I’ve been running a build of it on two of my phones for the last week or so and it’s getting to pretty good shape.

Here’s what it looks like:

We are expecting to get it into the store HOPEFULLY by the end of May.

From the published images, the official WP8.1 file manager will let users access folders and files on both the device and memory card, move files, as well as create new folders.

  1. I hope it will work like a proper file manager as in the ability to link to it from other apps. As in if I want to get access to any file from anywhere the file manager should pop up or be n listed, from there I can then get access to my files/document.

  2. Bit of an oversight in WP 8.0 that this functionality WOULD NOT for some reason be required in the first place, given it existed in Pocket PC 2002 through to Windows Mobile 6.1 devices!

Late delivery, but at least it’s now on its way.
