When it comes to pioneering innovations in hardware technologies used for mobile devices, Samsung is second to none. The Korean firm is always at work, churning out new amazing tech. Just when we thought we’ve hit the climax for phone displays with Quad HD (4k display), Samsung has announced they are working towards making phone displays of 11k. Crazy!!

In simple terms, ’11k display’ translates to 11,000 by 6000 pixels which amounts to a crazy 2250 ppi, all to be probably compressed in a 5.5 inch screen. Samsung Display executive Chu Hye Yong during a workshop made the following statement:

We are hoping that we are able to show such technologies at Pyeongchang Olympics if there is a progress in developing technologies. Although some might think that 11K as ‘over specification’ that consumers do not need, this can work as a basis for Korean display industry take another leap if related materials and parts improve through this,”

Don’t expect this to coming any soon, maybe sometime around 2018 from their projection. But then, all these screen resolutions, I wonder.

  1. Haha, this is funny. 4k display TVs after selling for an arm and a leg and they’re talking about an 11k display phone? In 2018 I cant see it being significantly less than today’s TVs unless it becomes the standard by then.

The human eye can pick up only so many colours and absorb so much ppi. All of 2250ppi in a 5.5″ screen??? Better be some kind of camera phone with a zoom lens.
