When you send a message on social media platforms, you get read receipts, showing that the recipient of your message has read your message. On iMessage, you get a Delivered receipt when your message has reached its recipient. When the person reads it, it shows as Read. But there could be times when you just want to read incoming messages without the sender knowing. To do that, you need to disable read receipts on your iPhone. There are several ways to do that.
TOGGLE OFF READ RECEIPTS OPTION
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Messages
- Toggle off the Send Read Receipts option. When you do this, your recipient won’t see a read receipt when you read your message. This also means that you can’t see theirs either.
USE 3D TOUCH “PEEK” TRICK
If you use an iPhone with 3D Touch (iPhone 6 – iPhone 7 Plus), you can just press hard on a thread to sneak a peek at its contents. This will let you read new messages without marking them as read. Also, when you 3D Touch an iMessage thread in the conversation view in the Messages app, you can view recent and new messages from its conversation thread.
DISABLE READ RECEIPTS FOR SPECIFIC CONTACTS
iMessage allows you to disable read receipts for specific contacts instead of for everyone if you please. Here’show to do it:
- Open iMessage, then go to a specific conversation you wish to disable read receipts for.
- Tap on More Details on the top right corner, shown as an “I” icon.
- Toggle off Send Receipts.
