Months ago, we wrote about how 4G feature phones are on the way. Well, they are here now. The Lava Connect M1 4G feature phone supports 4G VoLTE support for calling and data. Facebook Lite is pre-installed, and so is a web browser and FM Radio, as well as a music player. The phone is already on sale in India.
The Connect M1 lets users make voice calls, stream live videos, stream music and carry out online transactions on a 4G LTE network. With Qualcomm and Spreadtrum throwing in their weight behind the 4G feature phone movement, you can expect to see more of this kind of devices. The key benefit here is that super fast internet is made available at the lowest cost.
A phone like the Connect M1 isn’t for everyone. It certainly won’t appeal to smartphone users. Typing on an alpha-numeric keypad after having been used to a touchscreen will be a nightmare, but with a little over half of the world’s mobile users still carrying around a feature phone, a 4G feature phone is a great – and affordable – upgrade.
One thing is clear: the feature phone is evolving, not dying. Have a look at the specifications of the Lava Connect M1 below.
