When you experience issues on your iPhone, sometimes you have to put it in DFU mode. However, a lot of people have no idea what that means, and how to go about it. This post is to explain what DFU mode is and how to put an iPhone in DFU mode.
First of all, DFU means Default Firmware Update. This is the deepest restore process you can carry out on an iPhone, and you should only try it when you have serious issues with your iPhone. When you carry out a DFU restoration on your device, the PC erases and restores the code that controls the hardware and software on your phone. So, be cautious about it.
Here’s how to put your device in DFU mode:
- Plug your device into the PC and launch iTunes. Your phone can be off or on, it doesn’t matter.
- Hold down the Home button and the Sleep button for about 8 seconds. After this, release the Sleep button, but keep holding down the Home button till you see a message “iTunes has detected an iPhone in Recovery mode” on iTunes.
- When the device enters DFU mode, the screen will turn black. If not, you have to begin the process afresh.
- When the screen turns black, you can restore the device.
