When you wonder about what model is the top selling Android smartphone, it is natural that you think about the most popular names in the industry – names like Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo or even ZTE. But you would be wrong – at least for the top selling Android smartphone in Q1 (January to March) 2017. None of those brands were behind the phone that made it to the top.
The Top selling Android smartphone in Q1 2017 is from OPPO
According to Strategy Analytics, the OPPO R9s was top selling Android smartphone for the period. The R9s is a 5.5-inch phablet launched in October 2016 and marketed as a selfie phone. It sold 8.9 million units in Q1 2017 to clinch the top spot. Only the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sold more than it did.
If you are not familiar with OPPO, that is understandable. It is a Chinese brand whose OPPO phones are available only in a handful of markets but are especially popular in China and India.
The OPPO R9s is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor, has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage. You can have a look at the full Oppo R9s specifications.
