Your Android smartphone volume keys can be used for a lot of things. However, a lot of people only know two uses for them: volume control and screenshots. Fortunately, there are ways to make your volume keys shortcuts to other functions on your device.
To do this, you need an app. We will use one called QuickClick to illustrate. With this app installed, you can make your volume keys shortcuts to take a photo, make a call, turn on the flashlight, record an audio, write a text or start an app. Its quite easy to use QuickClick.
All you need to do is install the app, launch it and toggle the switch on the top of the screen on. Then you will see a list of functions you can add as shortcuts to the volume buttons. For each option you click, there will be options to further customize it. For example, when you select Camera, you get an option to specify what camera you want to use, your preferred picture quality, whether you want to use flash or not, and where your picture will be saved. Next, you need to set the number of volume button presses to activate the set function. You can set up to 6 clicks. When you finish with that, all you need to remember is the number of clicks you set for your shortcut. Your smartphone volume keys have become shortcut keys!
There are other apps available that provide the same or similar functionality. Just have a look inside your app store to see the whole range of what is available. Have fun with the extended functionality of your smartphone’s volume keys.
