Mobility Arena published the specifications of the AG Style smartphone. AG Mobile is a South African brand that launched in Nigeria this week. We already have a review mobile of the Style here at Mobility Arena, so expect our review soon. The first comment to be posted on the Ag Style specifications page inspired this comparison. The comment read:
For that amount I would rather splurge for an Infinix Hot 2. Nothing to see here.
I figured that a comparison would be nice to check out how true that comment is. Because the AG Style is a 1GB RAM devices, for fairness, we are pitting it against the 1GB RAM Hot 2. Let’s go!
|AG Style||Infinix Hot 2 (1GB)|
|Display: 5.0 inches, 480 x 854 pixels, 196 PPI.||Display: 5.0 inches, 720 x 1280 pixels, 298 PPI. Glass Protection|
|Mediatek MT6582 Quad-Core 1.3GHz||MediaTek MT6580 Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53|
|1 GB RAM||1 GB RAM|
|Android 5.0 Lollipop||Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, upgraded to 6.0 Marshmallow|
|8 MP camera with LED flash and 2 MP front||8 MP camera with LED flash and 2 MP front|
|8 GB internal storage. Plus microSD, up to 32 GB||16 GB internal storage. Plus microSD, up to 64 GB|
|No 4G||No 4G|
|1,900 mAh battery||2,200 mAh battery|
|N 19,200||N 22,000|
So, we see that the Infinix Hot 2 has the better display, twice the internal storage, twice the memory card support, a more recent version of Android OS, and a bigger battery. The Style wins in the physical design (it is really beautiful) and processor turfs. The Hot 2 is clearly the better value for money of the two, but then, observe the current selling prices of the two devices: the Hot 2 costs N3,000 more than the Style. The prices seem fine considering the difference in value between the two. You certainly cannot buy the Hot 2 at the price of the AG Style.
It is significant that the average user – the non-techie – cares nothing about the latest software and other internals. They will see a beautiful smartphone that costs less, and that will likely swing them in the direction of the Style. Don’t forget that at the bottom of the pyramid, price is a key factor. Over to you!
