Cameroon: MTN and Orange launch Mobile Tax

Mobile operators MTN and Orange have launched a new mobile tax service to help millions of taxpayers in Cameroon pay their property taxes via mobile money. So, we are looking at mobile money being used for tax payment purposes.

Tax evasion is reported to be a big issue on the country, and with a huge segment of the population unbanked, the new mobile money service is part of a move to increase internal revenue from property tax. Subscribers will be required to open an Orange Money or MTN Mobile Money account to be able to use the service.
