Yes; WeChat leaves Nigeria. Not the app though; just the office. Innovation Village reports that popular messaging app, WeChat, is closing down its official presence in Nigeria.
WeChat is developed by Tencent in China and was launched in January 2011. The WeChat Nigeria office has been involved in aggressive publicity and PR over the last one year. Part of their activities have been collaborations with Nigerian startups. We wonder what will happen to those initiatives and others that have been in the pipeline.
Development of the WeChat app for Windows devices was discontinued recently (see: Makers of WeChat ditch Windows 10 Mobile app development.
The Innovation Village news report suggests that if WeChat leaves Nigeria, its Nigeria operations may now be run from South Africa.
