Instagram is changing the way they handle pictures sent in from users. The picture sharing social network is now rendering uploaded images in 1080 x 1080 pixels instead of the former 640 x 640 pixel resolution.
An Instagram spokesperson confirmed the upgrade:
“We are gradually rolling out 1080 [pixel images] on both iOS and Android, and most people should have it.”
This means that users should start getting higher quality pictures on their mobile app. The feature can also be found in desktop though its only currently found in the source code of the web page.
Questions about performance and bandwidth issues can be raised, especially in areas with slow data connections. But hey, it’s the price to be paid for better quality pictures.
