Microsoft pulls the plug on KIN

Posted by

How long ago was it that Microsoft’s KIN devices were launched? 6 weeks or waht? Well, it must have been love, but its over now…

Official statement from Microsoft:

“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”

At least, that eases some of the confusing moves that Microsoft has made in its mobile strategy of recent.

  1. Am not happy that Kin is going but am happy that they are concentrating on Windows Phone Seven Series and they will be using the Kin team too.

Windows Phone 7 Series has so much work to do because it will have to challenge the likes of iOS4, Andriod 3.0, Symbian 3&4,MeeGo,Blackberry 6.0, Samsung Wave.

  2. I think I said it earlier that Microsoft phone/mobile world is lost of ideas? I did. This just shows that they don’t know what they are doing, neither do they know what we consumers want! Can you imagine targeting a phone meant for teens and young adults and putting the price point and contract tags at 199/299 dollars?!!?? This is the price point where super/business phones like the HTC EVO, iphone 4 and Motorola droid X starts from!!! Microsoft needs to get their acts right. A teen phone should never have been over-priced from the word GO!

  3. Boygeniusreport or some blog also reported the kins only sold 500 pieces… Gotta be hard to swallow from microsofts end.. The kins should have never been released, especially since windows 7 is on its way.

  4. I somehow couldn’t really fall in love with the kin. I thought it was too punny and didnt seem to offer anything substantially different save for the instant messaging stuff. Well on the whole, not good news for Microsoft
