Gradually, the users of the pioneer version of the Windows Phone platform get shafted more and more in updates. Apart from the fact that they are denied the ability to update to Windows Phone 8, many new applications and innovations that come on their later counterpart can only be looked at and admired from afar.
Microsoft has announced that within the next few weeks, Skype will no longer be available for download for Windows Phone 7 users, to add salt to injury the ones installed on their devices will not be able to work also. The reason for this, according to Microsoft is that
We want everyone to experience the best Skype has to offer — from enhanced quality to better reliability to improved security — and the newest version of Skype is the way to do that…..For that reason, we are permanently retiring all Skype apps for Windows Phone 7. Within the next few weeks, you’ll no longer be able to sign in and use Skype on any Windows Phone 7 device. You will still be able to use Skype on a variety of mobile platforms, including Windows Phone 8 or 8.1, but unfortunately, Skype will no longer be available in any form on Windows Phone 7.
I’d say this is a very dumb reason, and this adds to the growing list of frustrations for Windows Phone 7 users, Lesson? Never ever be a first adopter of any new tech product if you don’t want to regret it. I think the Windows Phone 7 folks have learnt this lesson several times over.
