EMUI 10, based on Android 10 Q, has been announced by Huawei

Huawei has announced EMUI 10, the next version of its custom skin for Huawei Android smartphones. EMUI 10 is based on Android Q and will roll out (in beta) to the first set of Huawei phones in September 2019.

Some of the improvements that EMUI 10 comes with include: system-wide Dark Mode with support for 3rd party apps, EROFS file system, GPU Turbo 3.0, HiCar, Multi-screen collaboration (wirelessly connect to and mirror your phone to a PC screen), new gestures, more rounded icons, and new animations.

The first set of phones to get EMUI 10 will be the P30 and P30 Pro starting from September 8, 2019, while the first device to launch with the new software is the Huawei Mate 30. In addition, the following devices will all get updated as well in a phased rollout:

  1. Harmony OS. What I’m not getting here is, is this an upgraded version of Google Android or, it’s an independent OS on its own?
