The Nokia X2 announced today runs Nokia X Software Platform 2.0, which has some software and user interface improvements to earlier versions of the platform. These improvements include four columns on the home screen, a new apps list, a task manager, and a new virtual keyboard. Of course, there’s also the addition of a Home button beside the Back button. Good news. The bad news is that earlier devices in the X family will not be getting this version of the software. From Microsoft:
“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months.”
Does this have to do with the absence of a home key on the X, X+ and XL? Perhaps. So, owners of Nokia X, X+ and XL will continue to receive updates and improvements to their devices, but they will never get version 2.0 of the software platform. We have a feeling that we are going to get strong reactions in our comments section below. What do you think?
