RIM Update on BlackBerry Service Interruption

Posted by

The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure.

Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed.

  1. As it stands, many people must have lost thousands of dollars, euro, or even naira in the last two. Days as a result of this outage. Can RIM be sued to recover some of these losses or they’ve got some legal framework covering their arse?

  2. This might as well be the end of Blackberry in the already competitive smart phone world. Some people including me might not want to risk this happening again combined with the overpriced products we’ve managed to endure and support.

  3. Only God is infallible.

However, grouse is that it is taking this long to rectify the fault. Facebook, google etc have outages, but they fix things quickly.this does not engender a lot of trust…

  4. They say the service is full back now but BB phone Have not receive any signal. I subscribe to BBS service no service on my phone.
