Sennheiser headphones have become synonymous with outstanding audio gadgetry over the years. If you are looking to buy a headset that delivers user experience beyond what the market typically offers, the Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset should fit the bill. Or, even if it doesn’t quite make the cut, it should come pretty close.
According to Sennheiser, the basic features of this gadget are its Active Noise Canceling and Transparent Hearing capabilities. If this assertion is true, then you can expect an outstanding performance but that is par for the course as Sennheiser headphones have stood out for that.
Even at that, the Ambeo is breaking some new ground especially with the continual rise and popularity of smartphone cinematography.

YouTube Vlogger, Ryan Connoly, says he got an intimate look at the performance of this amazing headset when Sennheiser invited him to the set of Roxanne Benjamin’s latest horror flick titled ‘Final Stop’. Shot mostly at night using an iPhone and the Ambeo Smart Headset as a microphone, the movie has since been uploaded to YouTube and is pulling a decent volume of viewer traffic.
Features of the Ambeo Smart Headset
Back to the Ambeo, it was the microphone of choice for the project because of its ability to record 3D sound. Did you just raise an eyebrow? Perhaps the next few sentences will smooth that crease. 3D sound typically means that the microphone can pick up virtually all the sounds in that environment.
In other words, ambient sounds. Imagine standing on a very busy street in downtown Lagos and being able to capture some distinctive sounds that correctly identify that location to viewers.
This situational awareness function allows for a recording that provides a complete audiovisual and highly immersive 3D experience by the audience. In order to accomplish this 3D effect, Sennheiser has two omnidirectional microphones embedded in the outer casing of the earpiece.
Sennheiser Headphones Sleek Design
Beyond outstanding functionalities, the Ambeo is a beneficiary of Sennheiser’s bias for aesthetic designs. It is designed to fit snugly into the ear while being held in place by a comfortable ear-hook. Users can also receive calls using the additional microphone built into the headset.
What’s your colour flavour? You can have it black or white but whatever your preference, its functions remain constant.

For smartphone cinematographers, the Ambeo is a desirable equipment to possess. Unobtrusive yet efficient and effective, it does not require any boom pole or heavy gear to operate. Simply plug and it is good to record.
If this article seems to lean towards the sound recording functions of the headset, it is because of its superb performance in that area. However, the Ambeo’s earphones deliver equally superb performance that has exceeded the expectations of users. The noise cancellation enables users to enjoy its scintillating sound while excluding noise from the surrounding environment.

Not to be an OS snob but this gadget works only with iOS at the moment. The audio cable comes with a Lightning connector head that only fits into Apple mobile devices like the iPhone. Sorry Android guys, but look on the bright side, Seinhesser says they are working on an Android OS version and should be out sooner than later. Fingers crossed!
Final Stop: A 3D Audio Thriller
Here is a 3D audio thriller, titled Final Stop, featuring immersive binaural audio captured with the Ambeo Smart Headset for your enjoyment. The trailer was shot entirely on a smartphone. It is recommended that you watch it with any high-quality headphones.
