Nokia rolls out updates (including new browser) to older Symbian smartphones

Owners of older Symbian (S60v3 and S60v5) have reason to smile as Nokia is rolling out updates on all fronts to those devices.

The updates include the new Symbian Anna browser and an updated Ovi Maps. When we published news of updates to the E5 and E72 yesterday, we did not have details of the improvements. Well, now we do. The complete list of devices to be updated is as follows:

Symbian S60 3rd Edition FP2 (S60v3) devices:

  • Nokia E72
  • Nokia E52
  • Nokia E5
  • Nokia C5-00
  • Nokia 6700 slide

Symbian S60 5th Edition (S60v5) devices:

  • Nokia C6-00
  • Nokia C5-03
  • Nokia 5230
  • Nokia 5235
  • Nokia 5250
  • Nokia X6
  • Nokia N97 mini
  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
  • Nokia 5530 XpressMusic

This means that the above-listed handsets are getting the new browser ahead of Symbian^3 devices like the N8, C7 and E7.

Still, this move underscores Nokia’s track record of supporting their devices years after release into the market.

If you have got one of the above devices, go check for your update. It may not hit your handset right away, but keep checking!

Thanks to EyeBeeKay for the tip-off!

This sucks!! My good, old, faithful 5320 Xpressmusic is not included, despite running S60 v3 FP2.

It’s good to see Nokia pay heed to these devices, the map improvements is what I would require, I don’t care much for the browser update i use opera mini on my all the phones i use. It just hope the update is available as a la carte else I’m sticking to the Ovi Maps 3.06 for the my white elephant N97

There is only a new ui for the browser, the main phone ui is still the same. But if u instal the Nokia Evolve (its among the free gifts Nokia gives) you will get icons that look like symbian anna

Nokia Evolve is a free app in the Ovi Store and you can also try Ray Symbian Anna, they will both give u symbian anna look.

For the update, I got mine by connecting my phone to Ovi Suite on my laptop and checking for updates

@mark, glo direct settings got nokia servers to push the update to me but gloflat wouldnt..cant use glodirect cos thats airtime not bundle settings….which settings did you use

@Shayman. I used gloflat. Do this, go to settings, then connection, then destinations, then internet, then make sure you change the gloflat settings to priority 1. Then when ever you check for updates it will use gloflat as default. Hope it works for you.

Tornado, you updated via OTA; right? Re-install using PC Suite. That should solve your problem.
