Google and Reliance Jio in India have collaborated to produce and announce the most affordable smartphone in the country, and perhaps on the world, the JioPhone Next.

The 4G-enabled JioPhone Next is targeted at upgrading the 300 million mobile users in India who are still on 2G and 3G networks. A super cheap 4G smartphone is exactly what is needed to accomplish that.

The official launch statement says that it will be powered by an extremely optimized version of Android, and will have an HDR camera. Listed below are the official specs of the phone.

JioPhone Next Specifications

  • Display: 1440×720 pixels
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 215
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Software: Android 11 (Go Edition)
  • Selfie Camera: 8 MP
  • Rear Camera: 13 MP

The price is also something that everyone is itching to hear. But that hasn’t been announced either. There are already $150 smartphones in the market. We have even seen a few, rare $100 Android smartphones. So it is likely that the Next will sell for between $50 and $100.

JioPhone Next will hit the shelves in September 2021, first in India, and will also eventually be available in other countries as well.
